Natural Travertine · Frosted-Glass Globes · Asymmetric Wall Sconce

A wall sconce in the language of 1970s Italian postmodern lighting — a tall vertical travertine slab with two frosted-glass globes mounted asymmetrically on its surface, one above the other on opposite sides of the stone. The composition is sculptural rather than symmetrical: a single slender slab of porous natural stone, two soft orbs of milky light.

Each travertine slab is hand-cut from natural stone, with the characteristic open pores, banded layers and subtle cream and beige veining unique to travertine. Three color variations — Classic Beige (warm Tivoli tone), Bold Black (rich Iranian-style travertine) or Tranquil White (Roman-style travertine) — allow the piece to anchor modern, gallery-style or warm contemporary interiors. Suitable for bedside walls, hallways, primary bedrooms, dressing rooms and gallery walls.

    Natural Travertine Slab

Hand-cut from natural travertine — visible pores, banded layers and a unique color tone in every piece.

    Double Frosted Globes

Two soft frosted-glass globes mounted asymmetrically — warm, diffused light without glare.

    Three Stone Colors

Classic Beige, Bold Black or Tranquil White travertine — natural stone in three distinct tones.

    Classic Beige

Warm honey-cream travertine with visible bands — the classic Tivoli tone, as shown. Suitable for warm contemporary and Mediterranean interiors.

    Bold Black

Rich black travertine with subtle gray veining and porous texture — grounded in modern, gallery-style and high-contrast schemes.

    Tranquil White

Light silvery white travertine with cream tones — fresh in coastal, Scandinavian and light-walled interiors.

Hand-cut natural travertine. Each slab is cut from a fresh block of natural stone — pore texture, banding patterns, color saturation, and surface character vary from piece to piece. The piece you receive will not be identical to the photographs. Visible pores and color variations are natural properties of the stone, not defects — they are why travertine has been valued in architecture and lighting since Roman times.

Installation note — ultra-slim profile. The travertine slab is only 7 cm (2.8″) wide, which is narrower than a standard US/EU junction box. Default installations route the wiring directly through the wall (no junction box required). If your wall already has a junction box installed, contact us before ordering — we will include a compatible mounting adapter that allows the sconce to mount over a standard junction box.

    • Direct-to-wall wiring — professional installation recommended.
    • Default installation: no junction box. The slim profile (L 6 cm / 2.4″) routes the wiring directly through the wall behind the stone. Best for new construction and walls that are being opened.
    • Retrofit to an existing J-box: contact us before ordering and we will include a mounting adapter that allows the sconce to sit over a standard single-gang junction box. No additional cost.
    • Heavy stone fixture: the travertine slab adds weight beyond a standard sconce. Use heavy-duty wall anchors rated for at least 5 kg, especially on drywall.
    • Install 60–66″ above the finished floor for hallway and bedside use; for gallery wall use, position it to align with the artwork rather than at standard sconce height.
    • Fits two G9 bulbs — provide your own warm white G9 LEDs.
    • For indoor use only · clean the travertine with a soft, dry cloth; avoid acidic cleaners that could damage the porous natural stone. Glass globes can be cleaned with a damp cloth.

Will my piece look exactly like the one in the photo? +

No. Travertine is a natural stone with patterns of pores, bands, and color saturation that vary naturally—each slab is different, and the stone you receive will not exactly match the photographs. Visible pores and color variations are properties of the material, not defects. Our note on the product page is explicit about this: the stone photographed and the stone shipped will differ.

What is travertine, and why does it have holes? +

Travertine is a form of natural limestone formed by mineral springs over thousands of years. Its characteristic pores (vacuoles) form when gases bubble through the stone as it hardens—they are authentic to the material and one of its visual signatures. High-quality travertine is unfilled (with visible pores) for a natural, textured appearance. The Romans used it for the Colosseum.

What is the difference between the three colors? +

Classic Beige is the warm honey-cream tone most associated with Tivoli travertine — Italian Mediterranean character. Bold Black is rich black travertine with subtle gray veining for graphic, modern, and gallery-style spaces. Quiet White is light silvery white with cream tones, fresh in coastal and Scandinavian schemes. All three are genuine natural stones, not painted.

    Is the sconce dimmable? +

Yes, with the right bulbs. Each globe uses a G9-base bulb. Install dimmable G9 LED bulbs on a TRIAC wall dimmer and the sconce will dim smoothly. Warm white 2700K–3000K is recommended to enhance both the tone of the travertine and the diffusion of the frosted glass.

Will it fit my existing junction box? +

Not by default. The travertine slab is 6 cm (2.4″) wide — narrower than a standard single-gang junction box (approximately L 5.7 cm / 2.25″, not including surrounding hardware). The default installation is direct-to-wall, without a J-box, so the wiring passes through a small hole behind the stone. If your wall already has a junction box installed, let us know when ordering and we will include a complimentary mounting adapter that allows the sconce to mount neatly over a standard single-gang junction box. Mention this when ordering so we can ship the correct hardware.

Is travertine durable as a wall sconce? +

Yes — travertine is a structural building stone, much harder than alabaster and not prone to cracking during normal indoor use. The main care consideration is to avoid acidic cleaners (lemon, vinegar, citrus-based bathroom cleaners), which can etch the surface. A soft, dry cloth is all that is needed for routine cleaning.

Can I install it in a bathroom? +

Travertine is suitable for general bathroom installations away from direct shower spray and high-humidity areas. Avoid placing it directly above a shower or bathtub — porous natural stone can absorb moisture and residue from acidic shower products over time. It works well in powder rooms and primary bathroom vanities.
