Brass · Flared Linen Shade · Transitional Sconce

A wall sconce in the language of classic American transitional lighting — a square brass backplate anchored to a horizontal bar from which one, two, or three arms extend, each ending in a flared linen shade above a small fringe knob. The composition is disciplined and graphic: a square, one or more horizontal arms, with soft fabric cones at each light source.

The brass is hand-finished — bright on the tops of the polished arms, deeper in the recesses where the light reflects. Available in four finishes (Polished Brass, Matte Black, Brushed Nickel, White) and three configurations (1, 2, or 3 heads) to suit a single bedside accent through a wide vanity or hallway. Suitable for bedside walls, hallway pairs, makeup mirrors, dressing rooms, and supporting pairs above console tables in transitional, traditional, and Hollywood Regency interiors.

    Flared Linen Shades

Hand-sewn flared linen drum shades diffuse warm, soft light from each arm.

    Square Brass Backplate

Disciplined square backplate anchored to a horizontal bar — graphic, architectural, transitional.

    1, 2, or 3 Heads

Adapts from a single bedside accent to a three-arm vanity sconce for a wide vanity.

    Polished Brass

Warm honey gold, as shown — classic transitional and traditional warmth.

    Matte Black

Soft matte black for modern, gallery-inspired, and high-contrast interiors.

    Brushed Nickel

Cool silver tone with brushed grain — fresh in coastal and contemporary rooms.

    White

Clean satin white — disappears into light-colored walls for a more discreet installation.

Hand-finished metal and flared linen shades. Each piece is hand-finished — subtle variation in tone and polishing depth between finishes is part of its artisan character. The flared linen shades are sewn by hand and may show minor variations in the stitching lines. Multi-arm versions are factory-aligned for symmetry along the bar.

    • Connects to a standard wall junction box — professional installation recommended.
    • Square plate (D 11 × H 11 cm) covers most U.S. single-gang boxes; verify before drilling.
    • For bedside walls and hallways, install the 1-light version 60–66″ above the finished floor.
    • For vanity use, center the 2-light or 3-light bar above the midpoint of the mirror, 75–80″ above the finished floor.
    • For matching pairs above a console or mantel, install matching 1-light sconces evenly on each side, 6–9″ above the surface.
    • Each linen shade attaches to its bulb holder — install the bulbs first, then attach the shades.
    • Compatible with E14 candelabra-base bulbs — provide your own warm white LED candle bulbs (one per head).
    • For indoor use only · clean linen shades with a soft brush; clean metal with a soft, dry cloth.

    How do I choose between 1, 2, and 3 heads? +

The 1-head version (∅ 5.1″ × H 17.5″) is the slimmest — a single tapered shade rising vertically from the mounting plate. Use it for bedside walls, hallways, narrow walls between doors, and pairs flanking a mirror or console. The 2-head version (∅ 13″ wide bar) and 3-head version (∅ 16.1″ wide bar) extend horizontally — best for wider walls, vanity mirrors, and gallery-style flanking installations.

What height should I install it at? +

For bedside walls and hallways, install the center of the sconce 60–66″ from the finished floor. For vanity use above a mirror, center the 2-head and 3-head versions 75–80″ above the finished floor, with the bar across the mirror’s midpoint. For pairs flanking a console table or fireplace, center them 6–9″ above the surface and space them evenly on either side.

    Is the Hillsdale dimmable? +

Yes, with the right bulbs. Each head requires an E14 candelabra-base bulb. Install dimmable LED candle bulbs on a TRIAC wall dimmer, and the sconce will dim evenly across all heads. Warm white 2700K–3000K is recommended for the flattering glow on the linen shade that the design depends on.

Which finish should I choose? +

Polished Brass (shown) is the classic transitional finish — warm, reflective, and well suited to wood floors, cream walls, and brass-tone hardware. Matte Black anchors modern, gallery-inspired, and high-contrast schemes. Brushed Nickel has a cooler tone and works well in coastal, contemporary rooms with light-colored walls. White blends into the wall for the most discreet installation — best when the linen shade should be the focal point.

Which bulbs does it use, and how many? +

One E14 candelabra-base bulb per head — one for the 1-head version, two for the 2-head version, and three for the 3-head version. We recommend warm white 2700K–3000K LED candle bulbs, each equivalent to a 40W incandescent bulb. Avoid daylight (5000K+) — it cools the linen’s tone and clashes with warm metal finishes.
